AI got you here.
Only people can
get you hired.

Real 1:1 time with a verified professional who's already made it. The human edge that turns applications into internships and full-time offers.

Students from
The paradox

AI made your application easy.
It also made you invisible.

AI made everyone equally average: similar resumes, identical applications, empty inboxes, no callbacks.

What breaks the tie isn't a sharper AI prompt. It's a professional who's already opened the door you're knocking on.

1:1
Private one-on-one guidance: real answers to your questions and clear direction on your best-fit path
Professional Mirror
Your strengths. Your gaps. Your potential. A blunt, honest read no algorithm can give you. Yours alone.
Webinars
Live group sessions where professionals teach how a field, role, or hiring really works

Not AI truth. Not peer truth. Not a career advisor's.
The Industry Truth will guide you to the right career path.

The Edge

One conversation. Two kinds of truth.

Every 1:1 gives you both halves of your best decision: an honest look at the world outside, and an honest look at yourself.

External · reality check
Industry Truth

The field as it actually is: industry trends, differences between companies and roles, and the competencies employers need. The outside world, from someone who works in it.

+
Internal · true self
Professional Mirror

A mirror held up by someone who has already walked your path. Their honest feedback shows you who you really are, and the potential you can't yet see.

Reality Check + True Self=Your Best Decision
Professional Mirror · your true self

Know who you really are,
and where you belong.

After each 1:1, a structured report captures an experienced professional's honest, objective read on you. Their years of industry experience become the wisdom that gives you clarity: your true self today, and the potential to take you higher tomorrow.

Every STEM student has blind spots. Industry professionals see what you can't.

🔒 Confidential. The Mirror is visible only to you, your mentor, and TorchLink.

Strengths

Solid grasp of semiconductor process fundamentals; communicates technical trade-offs clearly and concisely.

···
Development areas

Résumé under-sells impact: quantify yield and cycle-time gains, not just tools. Strengthen statistical process control and design-of-experiments, and take on a defect-analysis project to prove it.

···
Best-fit path

Strongest fit: process and integration roles at semiconductor fabs. Larger fabs offer structured training; smaller shops give broader ownership sooner. On visa: favor employers with an OPT-to-H-1B record.

···
Next steps

Rewrite your top project as a process-improvement story with numbers, target three fabs hiring this fall, and book a mock-interview 1:1 two weeks before applications open.

···

Without Industry Truth, you can spend years correcting a mistake that one honest conversation could have prevented.

Mentoring Community

Something to give, something to gain

Whether you're sharing hard-won wisdom, searching for direction, or navigating the best-fit path, this is for you.

For professionals · every stage has a role

Your experience is more than a track record; it's the map you never had. Steering students clear of the detours that cost you years brings a pride your day job rarely offers: watching someone reach the right path because of you.

Young · 1–9 years

You were just there

  • You just lived it: what students fear and where they're stuck is fresh to you.
  • Mentoring others sharpens your own expertise, every session.
  • Build your reputation early: today's students are tomorrow's network.
Mid-career · 10–24 years

You're on the other side of the table

  • You've sat on the hiring side: you know what your team actually needs.
  • Share what accelerates a career, and the detours to skip.
  • Your optional endorsement carries real hiring judgment, not just goodwill.
Senior · 25+ years

Let students stand on your shoulders

  • Compress decades of trial-and-error into one honest session.
  • Teach the unwritten rules of promotion no course or AI can.
  • Legacy at scale: ~50 students a year; your insight doesn't retire when you do.
Your rate, your schedule: set your own rate and your own availability.
A guided 1:1 tool: an optional structure to steer the conversation, making facilitation easy for you.
Optional endorsement: always your decision, never required.
The Mirror, built in: the same structure turns your session into the report; you just review it in ~2 minutes.

Join early and you're prioritized in the directory when students start booking,
and you get the first chance to host paid group webinars in your field.

For students · get on the right career path

Getting on the right path takes more than a strong application; it takes a map. A professional who's been there draws it for you:
the Industry Truth and an honest read on yourself, so you skip the detours that cost them years.

01Approach

Two ways in

  • Group webinars: a professional teaches a specific industry topic live to a group. Included with your subscription.
  • 1:1 mentoring: a private paid session on Google Meet: explore, guidance, feedback.
02Mechanism

Matched, then guided

  • Precise matching: same school, major, target role, industry, location, or visa path whichever matter to you.
  • Guided by experience: the moves that worked, and the traps to avoid.
  • HR-side prep: resume, interview technique, and a mock interview for your target role.
03Outcome

What you take away

  • Industry Truth: how your field really works and where it's heading, from someone inside it, not the fantasy from outside.
  • Your Professional Mirror: your strengths, development areas, and next steps. Private to you only.
04Impact

What it changes

  • Blind spot elimination: knowing what you can't see in yourself puts your feet on the ground.
  • Your best-fit path: commit early, instead of correcting the wrong role for years.
  • A potential endorsement: if it goes well, a mentor may vouch for you. Voluntary, and yours to carry.

Why we built TorchLink

AI made applying effortless, and applicants identical. The only edge left is a professional who's done the job, knows what hiring managers really want, and steers you clear of the mistakes that cost the offer. That's why we built TorchLink.

Co-founders

Dr. Gao
Lin Gao Hermenitt, Ph.D.
Co-founder · Campus & industry partnerships

Dr. Gao holds a Ph.D. in Workforce Education & Development from Penn State, plus an M.B.A. and a B.S. in Chemistry. Her path runs from teaching college classrooms to shaping the heart of corporate talent: over a decade at Corning, AGCO, and Motorola, she led Talent Management and Leadership Development for Asia-Pacific, building talent pipelines through succession planning to support business strategies. In the years since, as an educational consultant (NACAC, IECA, HECA), she has guided students into their dream schools, from the Ivy League to Stanford, Caltech, Northwestern, JHU, Rice, Michigan, Georgia Tech, UCLA, NYU, and more.

As a career coach for MBA students, she has helped them find their path, target rising industries that fit their backgrounds, and choose the critical positions that build toward future leadership. Few people have sat on both sides of the career equation the way she has, shaping how companies grow talent and helping individuals see themselves clearly and find where they truly fit.

Dr. Gao built TorchLink from her own story: she entered the 2010 recession as a highly credentialed international student, yet in that market credentials alone weren't enough to open the door. One person's referral was. That human help is what TorchLink now gives every student by design, not by luck.

Chris
Chris Hermenitt
Co-founder · Product & platform

Chris's 25-year career has unfolded in three chapters. For two decades he held senior leadership roles at Fortune 500 companies, serving as VP of Quality across North America and Asia-Pacific before taking charge of global quality. He then became Head of Quality at Anduril Industries, one of the most prominent startups in the U.S. Today, as a Senior Director at Valor Equity Partners, he advises fast-growing startups across Silicon Valley, Austin, New York, and Los Angeles.

Chris also helps shape the field itself. As a voting member of the U.S. Technical Advisory Groups to ISO/TC 176 and ISO/PC 302, he helps review and revise ISO 9001 and ISO 19011, the global standards for quality management and auditing that companies worldwide are measured against. He has also held leadership roles in the American Society for Quality (ASQ), including Education Chair of its Phoenix Section and International Membership Chair of its Automotive Division.

That range, from global corporations to the frontier of the startup world, is exactly the perspective young people rarely get to learn from. At TorchLink he leads product and platform, turning years of building teams, and seeing who rises and why, into guidance that helps students build a successful career before they even start.

AI

AI isn't erasing entry-level jobs so much as raising the bar: employers now want graduates who can direct and refine AI's output, not just perform the routine work it automates.

FAQ

Who is TorchLink for?
During the pilot, TorchLink is for STEM college and graduate students, matched with verified professionals in their field who mentor them. That said, any student can already learn from the HR and talent professionals on the platform, whose guidance on careers, hiring, and standing out applies to every major, and we plan to open to all fields after the pilot. Students navigating visas and work authorization get extra, visa-aware guidance.
How are mentors verified?
Every professional passes LinkedIn, work-email, and government-ID verification (via Stripe Identity) before appearing in the directory. You only ever book verified professionals.
What is Industry Truth?
Industry Truth is the honest picture of how your field really works, from professionals who are in it, not the generic version AI or a career site gives you. You get it two ways: live in webinars, where professionals reveal how a field, role, or company actually operates, and one-on-one, as the outside-world half of every 1:1 (paired with your Professional Mirror, the honest read on you). Either way, it’s what points you to the right career path.
What is Professional Mirror?
Most students never find out how a professional actually sees them. The Mirror gives you exactly that. After every 1:1, you get a structured, private report, drawn from your session with a professional who has done the job. It captures your real strengths, your blind spots, the career path that fits you best, and the potential to shape your future. It stays confidential to you, your mentor, and TorchLink, never shared with employers. That keeps the feedback candid and the growth yours.
What does it cost for students?
Students pay $19.99/month for full access to the directory, webinars, and booking, then pay their mentor's own rate per 1:1 session, with no added platform fee. Sign up in August and your first two months are free.
What does it cost for professionals?
Professionals join free and set their own rate. TorchLink keeps a flat $10 per 1:1 as its platform fee for verification, booking, and payments, a fixed amount rather than a percentage cut, so you keep more of what you charge. You receive the rest.
Who delivers the webinars?
Most webinars are hosted by verified professionals, who reveal how a field, role, or company really works and answer questions live. Compensation for hosting a webinar is arranged individually with each professional.
Where are 1:1 sessions hosted?
On Google Meet. Once a session is booked, you and your mentor each get a Meet link in a confirmation email, no extra app to download.
Where are webinars hosted?
On Google Meet. After you register, you'll receive a confirmation email with the link. Join live, or watch the recording later, included with your membership.
Can I hear directly from employers about open roles?
We plan to feature employers and recruiters presenting their open positions and what they look for in candidates; whether these run during the pilot depends on demand.
Can I get career guidance around visa and work authorization?
Mentors with F-1/OPT and H-1B experience are flagged in the directory, and many specialize in visa-aware career strategy, including the new fixed-period rules replacing duration of status. TorchLink itself does not provide legal or immigration advice.
How does TorchLink handle student data?
Your profile is used only to match you with mentors and run your sessions, never sold and never shown publicly. Work-authorization status is optional and stays private, your Professional Mirror is visible only to you, your mentor, and TorchLink, and payments run securely through Stripe. Employers never see your personal information.
How does TorchLink handle professional data?
Verification runs through Stripe Identity, and TorchLink receives only a pass or fail result; your ID and biometric data stay with Stripe. Your directory profile shows only what you choose to display, such as your background, expertise, and rate, and payouts are handled securely through Stripe.
When does TorchLink launch?
The founding pilot runs August through December 2026. Join the early-access list to get your invite first.
What does the “MVP” tag mean?
MVP stands for Minimum Viable Product: the first working version of TorchLink, built to prove the core idea with real students and professionals during the pilot. The essentials are here and fully usable; some features are intentionally simple or still on the way, and the product will keep growing based on what the pilot teaches us.

TorchLink is a platform connecting students with professional mentors for career guidance, not providing legal or immigration advice.
For visa or immigration matters, you should always consult your school's international student office or a licensed immigration attorney.

AI made everyone look the same.
A professional makes you stand out.
